News- 2007:
Fri
10 Aug 2007 PHOENIX PARK Runcorn.
- Thanks go to Jeff and Jane who organised the Party In
The Park and asked Loose Music to organise the bands and
p.a.
A great job on the sound was done by the Loose Team of Bill
Leach, Stu Joynson, and Jake Etere.
BLACK HAND kicked off the event at 1pm - excellent young
band!
Bill on lapsteel & Ged on trumpet played original arrangements
of old classics
11 REASONS followed - another amazing young local band.Great
music and loads of fun, and they were joined on vocals for
one song by Kyle Stanley who is usually found behind the
drumkit playing with Runcorn band The Loves.
There was a bit of a pause before NOAH'S ARCADE could play
cos the falcon from the falconry display decided to make
a bid for freedom and flew up on to the music marquee...
it was eventually lured back to its owner by her expertly
twirling a dead chicken round her head on a piece of string...
Eventually Mike Brookfield and guitarist Mark Pendleton
did a short set of their melodic pop songs, and JULIUS MARTOV
headlined with a strong set of intensely odd songs.
And it didn't rain.
Result!
11
Reasons.

HALL STUDIO UPDATE FEB 07:
Good News: We still
have the grant from The Trusthouse Fund for the new p.a.
for the venue - thanks to Ad Lib for good prices and assistance,
and to Stu & Bill from Loose for working out what's
needed and Best Value..
Good news: We have passed the Stage
1 application and are now putting together the next stage
application to The Big Lottery Fund for:
refurbishment and internal work to the building, and for
2 part-time staff for 3 years.
This will be a great help to start us off - ultimately the
place will be self sufficient, we have to pay all running
costs and bills.
Good News: Power To The (Young) People who gathered
on Sat. Feb. 10th to make a video application to Halton
Youthbank - many thanks to all who turned up at such short
notice, and to all who came to the meeting, and those who
emailed in their ideas and responses, and to George Bullock
for filming it, Mike Brookfield as second camera-man, and
Mr Stig for editing it together.
(Dabs tears with snotty hanky, hands over Award).
Closing date was Feb 15th, and we got it in just in time!!
The application is for money for all the roof repairs to
the building.
Youthbank is a scheme where people aged 13 - 19 can apply
for funding projects which will benefit young People in
Halton: If you have a Good Idea which needs funding ring
0151 422 5503 for info. No guarantees, but worth a shot.
MANY THANKS TO: local builder Jim Rawlinson and his team
for all the assistance and work they have put into this
project.
What Next: it will be at least 3 months before we hear from
The Big Lottery Fund, but we should hear from Youthbank
in a few weeks!!
They will want a group of YPs to do a presentation of the
application to the Committee who make the decision - a committee
of Young People. We have already got volunteers for this
but if you want to add your voice/your ideas contact Loose.
Meanwhile, we are continuing to explore other grants...
just in case.....
Over and out.
Great
news: GIG @ THE VIC IS BACK!!
Keith Hesketh and Mike Oliver have taken over The Vic, Ann
St., Widnes
(off Lugsdale Road) and say they are dedicated to giving
local musicians a place to play.
Haven't seen the place yet but they say it's been completely
revamped -
it sounds like John's old red velvet curtains have gone
off the stage... shame!!
They intend to put gigs on throughout the week - rock, acoustic,
indie, whatever!!
If it is supported it will be great, if not it will die
a death.
It's up to YOOOOOOOOOOOU!
Use it or lose it as they say...
More
details in Feedback magazine due out end of February.
Meanwhile: phone Keith on 0797 039 6019 to get a gig
(A website and a summer music fest is planned)
